Welcome to our Switzerland Travel Guide trip itinerary page, where we will detail the day-to-day itineraries, travel routes and distances (or travel times) of our trip to Switzerland.

We typically like to rent a vehicle and experience a true road trip when travelling. However, given the small area we were going to cover and Switzerland’s reputation for offering scenic train rides, we decided to do things differently this time and use the train system to travel between destinations and sites.

Why Zurich? Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city and is perfectly positioned to be the gateway for your trip. Not to mention its beautiful old town (Altstadt) and lake. There’s definitely something for everyone in this cosmopolitan city with a rich culture and history.
Why Interlaken? Interlaken is a small town located within the heart of the Bernese Oberland and is your perfect base for exploring the Jungfrau region. It’s known as the adventure capital of Switzerland and it’s definitely the place to go if you are into paragliding, river rafting, skydiving, or if you just want to be centrally located within the mountains for some hiking. Its name, Interlaken, means “between lakes”, as it lies between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, which are less than 5 km apart. (In fact, up until the 10th century, both lakes were merged together as one).
Why Bern? Bern, although it is Switzerland’s capital, is significantly smaller than Zurich and has much more of a small-town feel to it. But it still definitely packs a lot within its small city limits, including the rich medieval character of its UNESCO Heritage Site Altstadt, which is hemmed in on both sides by the beautiful Aare river. It’s also packed with curious and strange fountains throughout the historic center and has an awesome bear park (yes, real live bears!) just outside the old town.
